About Us

“A sustainable forest management strategy aimed at maintaining or increasing forest carbon stocks, while producing an annual sustained yield of timber, fiber or energy from the forest, will generate the largest sustained mitigation benefit.”

-Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2007 Fourth Assessment Report

One Voice for Working Forests supporters have a deep respect for forestland and all the ways it supplies and supports our communities, our society and our world. While we may not agree on the details of every concern, we recognize the need to speak with ONE VOICE to policymakers and the public on overarching issues that will help determine the degree to which the multiple benefits of working forests can be sustained for generations to come.

We believe that:

  • Active management of working forests produces environmental, economic and social benefits and must be preserved for future generations.
  • Maintaining working forests will continue only through the economic incentive of a robust market for wood and forest products.
  • Local, state and federal forest management policy should be guided by science-based tools and promote the active management of working forests.
  • A diversity of land management styles promotes biodiversity and is essential to a healthy forest industry.
  • Wood is the most environmentally friendly building material in the world, and forest products are the wisest environmental choice.
  • Forests are a critical component of our economy, especially in rural communities, and provide products essential to our lives.
